The Funeral Service

The funeral service is a ceremony of proven worth and value for those who experience grief. We believe that making the funeral service as meaningful as possible is beneficial not only for surviving family members, but also for those who are in attendance. A meaningful service, coupled with religious and spiritual beliefs, assists mourners in dealing with their grief.

The funeral service helps meet the emotional and spiritual needs of the surviving family and friends. Whether we recognize it at the time or not, those needs may include:

bullet Acknowledgement that the death has occurred
bullet Identifying the pain of the loss
bullet Remembering the person who has died
bullet Seeing hope for the future
bullet Receiving comfort and support from family and friends
bullet Reconfirming our spiritual beliefs
bullet Confronting the reality of death

The funeral normally involves a visitation period at the funeral home, a service either in a church or one of our funeral homes, and a committal service. However, funerals do not have any restrictions and we are able to provide the flexibility to accommodate your needs.

Hempen Funeral Home is a full service funeral home. We provide personalized and meaningful services. Some of the choices for services include the traditional funeral; simple cremation; simple burial; transfer to another location for services or burial; entombment; memorial services; religious or secular/humanistic tributes; receptions; visitation; and the church funeral, which in our area is still the most common type of service chosen.

Traditional Services
With visitation on one day followed by funeral service and burial the next day. A formal religious service is usually included in the traditional service and can be either in your church or our funeral home with burial in the cemetery of your choosing.

Modified Traditional Services
Any of the above traditional services arranged to better suit your personal wishes such as visitation, religious service, and burial all on the same day.

Cremation Services
While this can be a simple cremation, direct with no attendant rites or services, funerals with cremation can also be part of a traditional service with visitation, viewing, a formal religious funeral service, and, following the cremation process, a traditional committal of the cremains at a later date.

Memorial Services
A formal gathering either in church or our funeral home for a memorial tribute that is usually associated with direct cremation or anatomical donation where the body is not present.
