Eugene H. "Gene" Lohman, 83, of Aviston, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born November 23, 1922 in Aviston son of Henry J. & Rosa M. (Holtkamp) Lohman. He married Cleopha "Cleo" Athmer on December 26, 1945 in Trenton and she survives in Aviston.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas E. Lohman and wife Jane of Stuttgart, Germany, Patricia Huene and husband Bernell of Breese, and Mary Wagener and husband Mike of Edwardsville; 6 grandchildren, Chad Lohman and wife Chris, Jeremy Lohman, Neil Huene and wife Melanie, Eric Huene and wife Kate, Nathan Haar and wife Meesha and Tim Haar; five great- grandchildren, Alex Haar, Haden Haar, Tyson Haar, Andru Haar & Cooper Lohman; two brothers, Alfred Lohman of Florissant, MO & Harold Lohman of Germantown; four sisters, Jeanette Wolters and husband Leo of Aviston, Mary Ann Grapperhaus of St. Rose, Marcella Netemeyer of St. Louis, MO, & Pauline Bolk of Chesterfield, MO.; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Ed Korte of Trenton, Monty Lohman of Overland, MO, Pauline Lohman of New Baden, Bert Lohman of St. Louis, MO, Florence Lohman of Aviston, Cyril Athmer of Breese, Norman & Louise Athmer of Aviston, Shirley Moss of Aviston, Marilyn Hagen of Breese, & Donna & Jim Elliott of Davenport, Iowa; he is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Anthony F. "Buck" Lohman, George Lohman, Arthur Lohman & Walter Lohman; two sisters, Dorella Lohman & Leola Korte and a great -grandson, Colgin Lohman.

Mr. Lohman was retired from the Trenton Co-op in Trenton. He was a member of St. Francis Parish and Men’s Club and served at funeral masses at the church; he was a member of the Aviston Knights of Columbus Council 11110, and the Trenton Sportsmen’s Club. He served as a trustee for the Village of Aviston for 27 years and was formerly on the Aviston Park Board.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston, Ill. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will visit at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association or All Saints Academy and will be received at the funeral home.
